What To Expect

Irazu Volcano National Park
Visit the National Park where we can check and even be inside one of the 3 craters (inactive) of the Highest Volcano in the country. We will also experience the highland ecosystem of Paramo; a tropical dwarf forest.

Please pay your entrance fee on the day of the tour by cash.

60 minutes • Admission Ticket Not Included

Turrialba Volcano
We will visit the closest town to Turrialba Volcano,"La Central Town" where the sights are impressive due to the volcanic activity of recent years which has created a barren landscape.

The town is really interesting because it's kind of abandoned and has a spooky feel to it, however, the surroundings are full of farms with picturesque landscapes and views. With some luck, we will be able to see potatoes, carrots, beets, and other vegetables being harvested by locals and learn about costarican agriculture.

30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Guayabo National Monument
We will visit the most important archaeological landmark in the country. This prehispanic settlement was recognized as a Civil engineering World Heritage site and is located in a protected area surrounded by lush rainforest. You'll learn about costarican indigenous cultures and with luck, we'll see some interesting fauna as well.

Please pay your entrance fee on the day of the tour by cash.

Irazú Volcano, Turrialba and Guayabo

This tour was an amazing experience . The beauty of the natural setting combined with the knowledge and expertise of the our tour guide, Rigo made for an unforgettable adventure! We enjoyed the Irazu and Turrialba volcanoes and to our surprise the archaeological site of Guayabo.
The weather was nice and clear.
I would recommend Oropopo Tour Experience for your next visit to Costa Rica. The are not only masters at making the tour work smoothly and efficiently but also they are biologists which for us was an added value to our experience. Lots of learning.
Very good value for the money, in my opinion one of the best tours I’ve taken. Thanks, Rigo
10/10!

We had reserved the tour in advance and got the tour guide of Rigo. He was on time for the expedition. Rigo was a wonderful tour guide and not only informed us about the wonderful landscapes we experienced but told us facts and took us to several of the common areas in costa rica as we were trying to get the feel of the typical places local visited. Rigo was able to give us the experience we were looking for and also informed us of several of the naturalistic areas such as the animals sceneries and more! He also brought us strawberries to share and was so amazing overall I could not ask for a better day at Costa Rica ❤️ Definitely worth every penny and would do it again.
Great authentic experience

If you’re looking for an authentic costa rican experience, away from cheesy tourist attractions, that’s a tour for you. Rigo has a broad knowledge of the area, is friendly and you can tell he loves his job. You will get to see Cartago province through the eyes of a local. Loved the sites, views, the whole vibe of Oropopo. Also - during that tour I’ve eaten the best lunch so far in Costa Rica. Can’t recommend enough.
Beautiful Countryside Views!!
Luann W, 03-06-2022
This is an awesome way to see some of the countryside and view the craters of the volcanoes. My guides name was difficult to pronounce so he shortened it sadly I cannot spell it so I am not gonna try. We had a great day just talking and learning about the countryside! I knew very little about volcanoes but now I have a better understanding. Lunch was a great view overlooking the mountains. Guayabo was a good final stop. Too bad more wasn't known about these people. Archaeology is not funded much so that is why. All in all a great tour with some beautiful scenery and insight to their culture.
Fabulous day out!

Outstanding small tour with an exceptional guide (Rigo). Volcano vistas magnificent and the Guayabo site is much more interesting than it’s website would lead you to believe. Highly recommend!
Very Good experience where I was able to learn a lot!

What a pleasure this tour guided by Rigo was! He is an excellent tour guide and due to his background in biology was able to answer all of my questions.
We left in the morning for the Irazu volcano. Unfortunately, the craters weren’t visible due to fog and clouds. Nevertheless, I’ve gotten a great introduction to the volcano and how it affects local plants and animals.
The next part of the trip was to the foot of the volcano turrialba. The drive through the rainforest was very impressive. We stopped several times to take pictures.
Guayabo was a very interesting experience. It was nice to learn all about the ancient ruins that can be found there. Also, the rainforest and wildlife was very impressive: we saw capuchin monkeys, toucans and leafeater ants.
Volcano Wonderland

My nephew and I had a short stay in Costa Rica, so we wanted to see some nature on this tour. Rigo was our guide for the day and picked us up promptly at 630am for the trip to the volcanoes. It turned out to be a wonderful experience, as we were the only passengers, therefore able to ask a million questions. Rigo is so knowledgeable about nature, plants, animals and geography because it's his area of study at university. We spent the day at the volcanoes, traveling to the summit of Irazu and around other areas of lava flow and farmland. We can certainly recommend this tour, especially if Rigo is your tour guide!
Stunning natural and cultural sites!! Worth the expense
Erin_W, 08-04-2022
Although expensive, the tour was money well spent. I had a great time and was in awe of the sites we visited! We got very lucky and the weather was gorgeous, providing great views of the volcanos!! Just wish I had brought some shorts to change into after the volcanos as it got very hot. My guide was friendly and informative, especially about local birds.
