What To Expect
Carpe Chepe
How much do you like beer? Now, how much do you know about beer?
We'll start by sampling some local brews and pair them with a house dish carefully chosen by beer experts. The idea is that you learn how to properly pair beers with food and get an overall understanding on the brewing process.
From there on you'll walk through a safe and well illuminated route that show off this beautiful city at night, think of it as a "beer city tour" were a local guide will show you the city lights and talk to you about the major attractions on the way to the next beer.
You'll visit three more pubs where you'll taste beers from different breweries along with a different side dish for each of them. At the end of the tour, you'll be driven back to your hotel. You also get to take a souvenir glass back home with you.
Note: Transportation from and back to your hotel option is available. Applies only for hotels located in the Great Metropolitan Area (GAM)

A Must do for Beer Lovers

We were happy to find Carpe Chepe to show us around San Jose. We booked a same day tour and David was the guide. We met at their office in a cool area, California district and even retuned to the area to check out local street art the following day. The beer tours will usually start at their office, so double check if the Trip Advisor email confirmation says otherwise.
Anyways, it’s a cool area - went to four paces and sampled a variety of beers (summer ale, saison, red, stout, plus a couple extra that weren’t a part of the tour). David shared a unique history and story for each beer, all from a locals perspective. We had a small plate to share at each location as well, the rolled tacos were our fave and the other food was okay (French fries, sweet potato fries and cheese sticks). After finding out we enjoy street art, David went out of his way to include this in the tour and he could do the same for history, architecture or food.
One night in San Jose isn’t enough, I suggest 3 nights in order to have two full days to explore the city.

Great Food & Beer Tour with Knowledgeable Guide

We really enjoyed this tour. Great food and beer pairings at each stop. Iva, our guide, was very knowledgeable on the types of beers, the beer making process and the CR breweries. She keep the group engaged as well, since were the only non Costa Ricans on the tour. We picked the hotel pick up option as well which was nice. .
What a great start to our first time in Costa Rica!

I strongly recommend not bypassing San Jose and either starting or finishing your trip with a tour from Carpe Chepe! Our tour guide was Amaral and he was phenomenal! Can't recommend them enough :) Thank you!

We did two tours with Carpe Chepe, the Free Walking tour and the Craft Beer tour and both were fantastic! Iva was one of the most knowledgeable guides I've ever had the pleasure to tour with, both in regards to the history and current culture in San Jose to her craft beer scene insight. Thanks for showing us what a wonderful city San Jose is, can't wait to come back!

Every time we come through San Jose we make sure and do 1 if not more tours with Carpe Chepe. The walking tour is fantastic and full of History. The Pub and Craft Beer tours take you to places only the locals know and that we would have probably never stumbled upon. San Jose and Costa Rica have a great craft beer scene and as any Costa Rican visitor knows, amazing food. These folks can be trusted with time and taste.
